Kotor is one of my favorite places I\u2019ve been to so far. Located right in the heart of the beautiful Kotor bay, this place will steal your heart away.<\/span><\/p>\n

Kotor<\/a> is a little coastal town in Montenegro. The town is famous for its World heritage medieval structures and its beautiful natural scenery.<\/span><\/p>\n

The main part of Kotor is Stari Grad (old town). It’s listed as UNESCO World heritage sites and it’s Kotor best landmark. The town was built like a maze for protective purposes. The Old Kotor keeps the local culture, traditions, and history well preserved. In the area of the Old Town, there are monuments of the medieval architecture, like cathedrals, churches, and museums. The whole Old Kotor is also complemented with squares, narrow streets, and markets.<\/span><\/p>\n

All around Kotor are steep mountains which extend almost to the water. What is better than walking around beautiful preserved medieval town with mountain views all over you?<\/span><\/p>\n

The Old town of Kotor<\/a> is surrounded by 4,5 km long ancient walls which are stretched from the sea up to the fortress on the top.<\/span><\/p>\n

After wandering the narrow streets of the Old town climb the Upper Town Walls and head to the San Giovanni fortress. The fortress is located on the top of the surrounding mountain at 1, 200+ meters above sea level. To reach the fortress you\u2019ll need to climb 1, 350 stairs. On the whole way to the top, you\u2019ll be rewarded with amazing views over the Kotor bay.<\/span><\/p>\n

On the halfway to the top is the Saint John Cathedral. You can stop here and stay for a while to enjoy the views.<\/span><\/p>\n

Podgorica Airport \u2013 90 km away<\/span><\/p>\n

Dubrovnik Airport\u00a0 – 73 km away<\/span><\/p>\n

Kotor is well connected with neighborhood cities and countries by bus. The main bus station is 10 minutes walking from the Old Town.<\/span><\/p>\n

Another way to get to Kotor is a cruise ship. There are regular cruise ships plying the Adriatic Sea. The cruise ship will leave you in front of the Old Town.<\/span><\/p>\n

Where to stay<\/span><\/strong><\/h3>\n

You can choose from plenty hostels and hotels with different locations and prices depending on your preferences and budget. Note that the summer is the higher tourist season so then the prices tend to be also higher.<\/span><\/p>\n

Would you consider visiting Kotor? I bet you will. When you do don\u2019t hesitate to explore other parts of Montenegro, like Perast, Tivat, Herceg Novi, Budva and even Dubrovnik (Croatia)<\/a>, which is 3 hours ride away.<\/span><\/p>\n
