Herzegovina is today still an undiscovered beauty located in the heart of Europe. It offers plenty of places which you will wish to visit and adventures you will want to experience: landmarks with long and rich histories, tasty local food, experience adventure, and meeting warmest people \u2013 Herzegovinians.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Lejla \u0160ehi\u0107,<\/strong> 21 years old Bosnian living in Sarajevo, in love with exploring her country, will present you places of Herzegovina region through the story from her perspective.<\/span><\/p>\n

#1. Neretva<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Neretva, Herzegovina’s greatest treasure, passes through the city of Mostar and flows under a reconstruction of a 16th-century\u00a0Ottoman<\/a>\u00a0bridge<\/a> which was destroyed during the Bosnian War,\u00a0remarkable Stari most (old bridge), which connects the East and West parts of the city.\u00a0While walking on the bridge on warmer days, you can watch The Old Bridge divers who dive into the river from a height of twenty-four meters, leaving many tourists breathless. <\/span><\/p>\n

One must-do in Mostar is enjoying a local meal: \u0107evapi<\/em>, burek pita<\/em> (pie) or begova \u010dorba<\/em> (Bey\u2019s soup). After enjoying the local culinary delights, why not do some shopping in the Bazaars and traverse the cobblestone streets, perhaps stopping to have a cup of strong Bosnian coffee (the smell alone is enough to entice you!) while listening to the stories of local heroes who fought to defend the city during the war twenty years ago.<\/span><\/p>\n

#2 Blagaj and Stolac<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

While in Herzegovina, you have to visit a village in the spring of the\u00a0Buna river<\/a>\u00a0and a historical tekija\u00a0(Dervish\u00a0monastery), Blagaj, and town Stolac, a few of kilometers down the road from Mostar. The\u00a0Blagaj Tekija<\/a>\u00a0was built around 1520, with elements of\u00a0Ottoman architecture<\/a>\u00a0and Mediterranean\u00a0style\u00a0and is today a national monument. Stolac, on the other hand, exudes elements of the Illyrian, Roman, and Slavic periods, and is home to the Radimlja- ste\u0107ak necropolis, O\u0161ani\u0107i \u2013 home of an Illyrian tribe called the Daorsi, the Neretva tributary Bregava, and Badanj cave.<\/span><\/p>\n

#3 Po<\/strong>\u010ditelj<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Pleasant settlement of Po\u010ditelj<\/strong> is placed 20 km to the south, below the high cliffs above Neretva, dominated by the medieval defense fortresses. Architecturally, the stone-walled parts of the town are a fortified complex, in which we can notice both medieval Bosnian and Ottoman design influences. Po\u010ditelj fortress offers an amazing view of the river Neretva and the whole \u010capljina municipality.<\/span><\/p>\n

#4 Hutovo blato<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Hutovo blato National park is located right next to the national border. This sole\u00a0and\u00a0bird reserve\u00a0in Bosnia and Herzegovina<\/a> is known for its marshlands created by\u00a0 the Krupa River and green oasis with an abundance of fresh water, which makes it a great habitat for a multitude of different bird and animals, which makes Hutovo wonderful for nature lovers and bird-watchers!<\/span><\/p>\n

#5 Neum<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

A great place to visit is the coastal town of Neum<\/strong>, which stretches twenty kilometers along the beautiful Adriatic Sea. The Mediterranean climate, seafood, and characteristic mentality and hospitality of the inhabitants make Neum as an attractive location for summer vacation or just a weekend away.<\/span><\/p>\n

Herzegovina offers much more than these places and it is beautiful to see at any time of the year. It offers you diversity of experiences and as such, it is definitely a must see.<\/span><\/p>\n
