Its preparation depends on the region. In Bulgaria Moussaka is based on potatoes and ground meat. The meal is served warm and Bulgarians eat it very often simply because it&#8217;s super delicious and easy to cook.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">Moussaka is the perfect dish if you are in Bulgaria and want to experience traditional recipes along with <a href=\"https:\/\/travellingbuzz.com\/traditional-bulgarian-banitsa-recipe\/\">banitsa<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/travellingbuzz.com\/bulgarian-shopska-salad\/\">shopska salad<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/travellingbuzz.com\/tarator-bulgarian-cold-yogurt-soup\/\">tarator<\/a>. The yogurt and eggs layer on top gives the dish a unique taste which you can&#8217;t find anywhere else. The Greek Moussaka uses eggplant rather than potatoes.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">Here&#8217;s the Bulgarian Moussaka recipe:<\/span><br \/>\n<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\"><strong>2 lb<\/strong> (~1 kg) potatoes, cut in small cubes<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\"><strong>1 lb<\/strong> (1\/2 kg) ground meat<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\"><strong>1<\/strong> onion, chopped<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\"><strong>2<\/strong> cups milk<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\"><strong>4<\/strong> eggs<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\"><strong>1\/2 <\/strong>cup oil<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\"><strong>2<\/strong> tablespoons paprika<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\"><strong>1<\/strong> tablespoon salt<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\"><strong>1<\/strong> teaspoon crushed black pepper<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><strong>Preparation<\/strong>:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">Start with cooking the onion in a pan with 1\/4 oil until golden brown. Then add the ground meat, the pepper, the paprika, and half the salt.\u00a0Fry until meat gets brown and then remove the pan from the heat.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-2243 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/travellingbuzz.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/moussaka1.jpg?resize=597%2C346&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"moussaka1\" width=\"597\" height=\"346\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/travellingbuzz.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/moussaka1.jpg?w=597&amp;ssl=1 597w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/travellingbuzz.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/moussaka1.jpg?resize=300%2C173&amp;ssl=1 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 597px) 100vw, 597px\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">Mix well with the potatoes and the other 1\/2 tablespoon of salt. Add the mixture in a casserole pan with the rest of the oil.
